December 30th, 2008

We started the day off making some cookies for Santa.

Tired from all the work, Chavonne and Denae had to take a nap.

And little while later, Jakhi helped make some chocolate milk to go with the cookies.

And here he is reaping his rewards from Santa.

A home of our own

December 14th, 2008

We made a bid on another house and ONCE AGAIN we were told that they accepted another offer. We have countered ONCE AGAIN but i have a feeling we will not be getting this house. It’s not that I’m in a rush to buy a home (although O really wants to buy one as soon as possible). I am more so in a rush to feel settled. Since the bed bug fiasco, we have thrown away our couch and our bed and we really do not want to buy new things until we are out of this place. However, I will not be 5 months pregnant sleeping on an air mattress. I still have a lot of my clothes in plastic bags and my other items are in quarantine ( Otilio went MAD when he discovered we had bed bugs and locked everything up). I just want to decorate, organize, unpack, and most of all BUY NEW FURNITURE again. Its hard living in a place where you have one foot out the door. In the mean time, I have been trying to decide how we will decorate our home, whether it be another apartment or a house, once we leave this place. We both love color and the bright walls in our current living room. So while we are waiting to find our home, ill just focus my thoughts on these things:

My inspiration board. All the pictures dealing with home decor are to the left.

The ideas:

Bright curtains

I like the idea of a white or egg shell kitchen with brightly painted cabinets

Peacock colors. I love these colors, from the walls, to the pillows, to the chairs

Saw this couch a while going through the archives of this blog

I really like this chair from anthropologie but its out of our price range and i would be too nervous that the kids would spill something on it.  I would consider buying fabric in a different shade and have a chair upholstered.

This is the house we are currently bidding on

Monday Night Dinner

December 8th, 2008

Saw the recipe for this dish here and I really wanted to try it. It was a hit.

Peachy chicken,..the recipe

3 chicken breasts — split
1/2 cup flour
1 salt and pepper
2 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoon oil
1 1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
16 ounces peach halves — drained

Directions:

Shake chicken pieces in a zipper bag with flour, salt and pepper. Combine the butter and oil in a large skillet. Brown the chicken in the butter/oil mixture. Place browned chicken in 3-quart baking dish. Combine the orange juice, vinegar, sugar, basil, and nutmeg, and pour mixture over chicken. Cover and bake at 375F for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until tender. Baste often. Place peach halves between chicken pieces, baste well, and bake uncovered for 15 minutes longer.

Joy and Pain

December 7th, 2008

Highs and Lows of the last couple of weeks:

My two little nieces stayed over during the thanksgiving vacation. Otilio’s getting better at not going crazy with 3 small children at our place. One night, during Jakhi’s bath, Denae wondered into the bathroom and eventually fell into the tub. We immediately ran in and got her out. There weren’t many tears, she was just a little shocked and very wet.

Since we are such great babysitters, instead of immediately drying her off we went for the camera to snap a picture.

And because she was already wet, we figured we might as well just throw her in.

A nice teacher painted Jakhi’s face at his school and made him a very happy boy.

Otilio had to get a tooth removed. It did not make him a very happy boy.

Date Night

November 23rd, 2008

Recently, I’ve been longing for a date night with my husband. Nothing fancy, just a reason to get a little dolled up and have a grown up night out. Well my amazing sister/aunt Tasha offered to keep the little one this weekend since there were 2 birthday parties planned for the kids to attend.  That gave us Friday night and all of Saturday to ourselves. So on  Saturday evening we went to a little Mexican spot in Milburn, then drove around the city for a bit looking at all the nice homes we’ll never be able to afford. I did not get dolled up (I wore my black weekend hat and the only pair of jeans I own that fit) but it was still a nice night out.

My niece’s 5th birthday party was today at the bowling alley. We brought the cake. And when it was all over, left with our son. We were ready for him to come home.

Why Blog?

November 11th, 2008

Because we have family and friends in Japan, London, Germany, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida with whom we would like share more of our lives. And everyday more and more of my family threatens to abandon me here in Jersey for a more affordable slower paced life in North Carolina

Because once upon a time I was a writer….Really. Sadly, my WANT to write vanished during the time I HAD to write for school. Nothing like forced topics and deadlines to kill a hobby

Because I believe in communities…online and off

Because I stopped using birth control Oct 2008 and realize that the time we have left as a family of three is limited.

Because who better to record our story and our lives than ME
